The Pearl is a pristine, pedestrian-friendly artificial island. It is a wonderful hang-out spot, and it’s the place to be seen during the cooler evenings and winter months. The outdoor area, shaped like a pearl and surrounded by ocean, covers a distance of around 4 sq km, and its pavements are full of European-style street-facing shops and restaurants. There’s a lovely promenade opposite a large yacht-filled harbour, where locals and tourists stroll.
Tempted to get out on the water? Blue Pearl Watersports, a respected outfit situated in the harbour, will hook you up with a boat or a board. Meanwhile, the marina’s walkway is the perfect place to stroll of an evening. Alternatively, hop on one of the golf buggies (free) or if you’d rather go by water, a boat taxi service runs from six points of the crescent-shaped marina between 9am and 11pm.
